Organize Your Shipping Space

Whether you ship for business or a creative hobby, shipping should be simple so you can delight your customers with orders that are filled quickly. The first step is making sure you have a neatly organized shipping space, so everything you need to protect, label and box up your wares is all in one place.

Tip 1: Have extra supplies on hand, so you’ll be ready to prepare shipments fast and get them out the door. We recommend extra rolls of Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape, Scotch™ Cushion Wrap and several different box sizes.
Tip 2: Use a curtain rod to hang up your butcher paper or Scotch™ Kraft Postal Wrapping Paper to make it easier to use. Install the rod at a height that’s natural and easy to reach, and you’ll be able to fill air gaps in your boxes in almost no time at all.

It doesn’t matter if you’re upping your birthday game or improving your Etsy shipments, adding a little personality to your packages will make them feel more intimate, thoughtful and delightful. We’ve gathered some simple tips to help you craft an incredible unboxing experience.

Tip 1: Use Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to customize a thank you note, business card, merchandise tag or other insert. It shows that you’ve gone the extra step to make your shipment feel special.
Tip 2: Gently crinkle Scotch™ Kraft Postal Wrapping Paper, and pack it around your item. It will add extra protection, and ensure the focus stays on the object inside.

Tip 3: Add an initial burst of color. Find a striking wrapping paper and line the inside walls of the box using Scotch® Double-Sided Tape. An unexpected first impression goes a long way toward elevating the experience.

Tip 4: If you’re sending items that still have their original packaging — like a tagboard band around a ball of yarn—try covering it with wrapping paper to give it a unique, individual feel.

Tip 5: If you are shipping items that are delicate, loose, light or sharp — like knitting needles — use Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape to soften the points and edges, bind them together or secure them within the box.
Tip 6: Most packages look pretty dull when they arrive, so if you’re using envelopes or padded mailers, pep them up with Scotch® Expressions Washi Tape.

If you can’t find the perfect shipping supplies for your item, make your own! Shipping boxes are pretty standardized, and making do with a box that is too spacious can cost more and leave the contents vulnerable to rough handling in transit.

It probably took a bit of work to find or create the perfect items for your shoppers. Now a bit of extra care can help make sure this precious cargo gets to its intended destination safely. Use Scotch® Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape to secure your package in three different ways.

Tip 1: Use it to seal the flap of paper and plastic mailers to help protect their contents. Self-sealing mailers can lose their adhesive strength over time, or the adhesive might not completely cover the corners.
Tip 2: Cover up address labels so they don’t get damaged in the mail. This will also give your package a trim and professional look.

Tip 3: Apply it to the Scotch™ Cushion Wrap you put around your specialty items. This will help the wrap stay in place and provide some extra protection, especially if it’s a rocky ride.

Even if you create your own packaging and it’s ideally sized for the delicate item you’re sending, it never hurts to put a layer of Scotch™ Cushion Wrap around the item and secure it with Scotch® Heavy Duty Greener Shipping Packaging Tape.
