Gift Wrapping Basics

Master the art of beautiful gift wrapping with the right tape, techniques, and finishing touches.

Choose Your Tape: Gift-Wrap vs. Double-Sided

  • Scotch® Gift-Wrap Tape features a unique satin finish that blends seamlessly on shiny or glossy wrapping paper. It holds firmly for a clean, professional look — perfect for traditional wrapping papers and everyday gift-giving.

  • For a completely invisible finish, Scotch® Double-Sided Tape is your go-to. You can easily fold the paper edge over the tape, hiding it entirely. Ideal for thick papers that need extra hold, or delicate materials like tissue paper that can shift against regular tape.

How to Wrap Gifts

Materials needed:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Ribbon or bow (optional)
  • Gift tag (optional)
  • Craft setup with turquoise chevron paper, scissors, ruler, and geometric planter on wood table.
    Step 1: Measure and Cut

Unroll the wrapping paper on a flat surface. Place your gift on the paper to measure, then cut, leaving 2-3 inches on all sides for full coverage.

    Step 3: Fold the Ends

At each end, fold the top flap down and crease the sides to form triangles. Fold triangles inward and tape securely. Smooth out any wrinkles as you go.

  • Step 2: Wrap the Gift

Center the gift on the paper. Pull one side over snugly and tape it down. Pull the opposite side over, ensuring the paper is taut, and secure with tape.

  • Step 4: Add Finishing Touches

If desired, wrap with ribbon or attach a personalized gift tag. Your gift is now beautifully wrapped and ready to make someone’s day!

Make Your Gifts Shine

Turn ordinary wrapping into something special. Mix metallic tape with kraft paper, create designs with washi tape, or let kids add their artwork directly to the paper. The magic is in the personal details — start with quality Scotch® Tape and let your creativity flow.

Elevate your Wrapping Station

  • Transform holiday wrapping from chaotic scramble to smooth operation. A dedicated station saves time and makes the whole process more enjoyable — whether you're wrapping year-round or tackling the holiday rush.

  • Set up your space with wrapping paper rollers, multi-tape dispensers for easy access, and organized storage for ribbons, bows, and tags. If you already have a craft space, it can easily double as your wrapping headquarters.
